Rohit Sharma remarks that the 1-1 scoreline after three Tests accurately represents the performance of both teams.

Date:

Rohit said, “We have played some very good cricket. We were also lucky when we won that Perth Test match. When you get all out for just 150 runs, you feel a little pressure, but the way the boys came back and bowled out Australia for 104 runs shows their fighting spirit. This attitude, where no one gives up till the last day of the Test, is something we’ve had for a long time. When you play abroad, you need to put in extra effort and show that fighting attitude, and we displayed that in the Perth Test match.”

As India gets ready for the Boxing Day Test against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) for the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, captain Rohit Sharma appeared confident during the pre-match conference on Tuesday.

Talking to reporters, the Indian captain praised his team for their brilliant win in the first Test in Perth. More importantly, he highlighted his team’s “never give up” attitude.

Australia came back strongly, winning the day-night Test in Adelaide by 10 wickets. Rohit admitted that India didn’t play well in that match.

“In Adelaide, we were a little behind the game and didn’t play well, which I also admitted. Then in Brisbane, there wasn’t much play, as only 180-190 overs were bowled. So, after three Test matches, being 1-1 seems fair. Both teams have played solid cricket. Now, these two remaining matches are very important for both sides. But right now, we want to focus only on Melbourne, play good cricket, bat and bowl well, and take good catches,” Rohit added.

The series is currently tied at 1-1 in the five-match series, with India needing one more win to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

India has played 14 Tests at the MCG, winning 4, losing 8, and drawing 2.

The last time India played at the MCG in December 2020, under Ajinkya Rahane’s captaincy, the team made a strong comeback after the 36 all out in Adelaide, winning the Boxing Day Test by 8 wickets.
