In 2024, the Indian cricket team’s schedule had very few One Day Internationals (ODIs). They played only one ODI series against Sri Lanka in August, which India lost 0-2.
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup was held from June 4 to 30, 2024, in the West Indies and the USA. To prepare for this, India focused more on T20 Internationals (T20Is) to get the team ready for the tournament.
After the T20 World Cup, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shifted attention to Test matches. This was done to keep the team’s performance strong in the longer format of the game. As a result, India had a busy Test schedule in the later months of the year.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) took place from March to May, followed by the T20 World Cup. To manage the players’ workload and avoid injuries during these high-pressure tournaments, the number of ODIs was kept low.
The BCCI planned the schedule carefully to focus on the T20 World Cup first and then Test matches against strong teams like Australia. This approach reduced India’s focus on ODIs in 2024, leading to only one ODI series being played.
