The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are gearing up to defend their IPL title in 2025, bringing in fresh energy with a new captain and management team. However, there’s speculation about where they’ll be playing their home matches. Due to anticipated renovations at Eden Gardens, it’s possible KKR might host their games away from their traditional Kolkata home.
The iconic Eden Gardens is slated for upgrades as part of preparations for the T20 World Cup in 2026. The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) plans to enhance the stadium by constructing two new dressing rooms opposite the Dr. BC Roy Club House and expanding the seating capacity. This renovation work is expected to be completed by December 2025.
“New Stadium Considered as Alternate Home Ground for Kolkata Knight Riders”
The new stadium in Narsingarh, near Agartala in Tripura, could soon become a second home ground for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), according to PTI. This possibility was raised during a visit by IPL chairman Arun Dhumal, who noted that if the stadium’s construction is completed by February 2025, KKR or even another IPL team might make it their secondary base.
Subrata Dey, secretary of the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA), shared that Dhumal expressed interest in the venue hosting IPL matches if it is ready in time. To ensure this opportunity isn’t missed, the TCA has enlisted a well-regarded construction company to speed up the project. The association has also put measures in place to monitor the work closely; if the agency fails to meet the deadline, they will replace it with another firm to complete the stadium by the target date.
