The much-awaited action-thriller Baby John, starring Varun Dhawan, Keerthy Suresh, and Wamiqa Gabbi, is set to release tomorrow, just in time for Christmas. Hitting the big screens on December 25, the movie is expected to perform well at the box office, with the holiday season likely to give it an extra boost.
As per a report by Sacnilk, Baby John has already sold over 16,100 tickets for its Hindi 2D version, adding up to an advance booking total of nearly ₹50 lakh for Day 1. Including blocked seats, the Day 1 collection estimates have already crossed the ₹1 crore mark.
The movie has gained strong pre-release buzz in cities like Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune, and Kolkata. Ticket sales are expected to rise further as the release date nears.
Tough Competition for Baby John
The film faces stiff competition from Pushpa 2: The Rule, starring Allu Arjun, which has been a massive hit. Pushpa 2 is in its third week and has already earned ₹679 crore in its Hindi version alone, with worldwide collections nearing ₹1,500 crore. The Allu Arjun starrer continues to attract large audiences, which may impact the performance of new releases like Baby John.
Director Atlee commented on this competition, revealing that Allu Arjun even spoke with Varun Dhawan about the challenge.
Another contender at the box office is Mufasa: The Lion King, which made ₹41 crore in India during its debut weekend. With a star-studded voice cast for its Hindi version, featuring Shah Rukh Khan, Aryan Khan, and Sanjay Mishra, it is likely to draw audiences, especially in metro cities.
About Baby John
Directed by Kalees, Baby John is a remake of the 2016 Tamil hit Theri, which originally starred Thalapathy Vijay. However, Varun Dhawan has shared that the Hindi version has significant changes to suit the audience’s taste.
The film stars Jackie Shroff and Rajpal Yadav in key roles, alongside National Award-winning actress Keerthy Suresh, marking her first release after her marriage to Anthony Tattil earlier this month.
Known for its high-action sequences, the movie features stunts designed by eight international action directors, including Anl Arasu and Stunt Silva.
CBFC Cuts and Final Runtime
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has reportedly censored certain references to Lal Bahadur Shastri and Phule and reduced some violent scenes. The final runtime of the film has been adjusted accordingly.
As Baby John gears up for its grand release, fans are eager to see whether it can live up to the hype and hold its ground against blockbuster competitors.
