Bhuvneshwar Kumar Creates History in IPL 2025!

Indian fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar became the joint-highest wicket-taker among pace bowlers in IPL history during the match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT). Even though Bhuvi bowled an excellent spell of 1/23, RCB lost the match by 8 wickets at their home ground. Gujarat Titans successfully chased down the target of 170 runs.

Bhuvneshwar Equals Bravo’s Record

With this milestone, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has equaled Dwayne Bravo’s record of 183 wickets in IPL. While Bravo achieved this in 161 matches, Bhuvi reached the same number in 178 matches. He now stands at third place in the all-time highest wicket-takers list in IPL, behind:

Yuzvendra Chahal206 wickets
Piyush Chawla192 wickets

Bhuvi shares the third spot with R Ashwin (183 wickets) and Sunil Narine (183 wickets).

A Brilliant Spell by the ‘Prince of Swing’

Bhuvneshwar, also called the “Prince of Swing,” bowled an economical spell, giving away runs at just 5.80 per over. He took the important wicket of GT captain Shubman Gill early in the innings. However, despite his efforts, RCB couldn’t defend their total.

How Gujarat Titans Won the Match

The match was played at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, where Gujarat Titans chased the target in 18 overs. After Bhuvi’s early breakthrough, Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler built a crucial 75-run partnership, making it difficult for RCB to make a comeback.

Though Josh Hazlewood dismissed Sudharsan, GT already had control of the game. Later, Sherfane Rutherford came in as an Impact Player and finished the chase in style.

In the final over, Buttler smashed two big sixes, and Rutherford hit the winning shot over deep backward square, sealing Gujarat Titans’ victory by 8 wickets.

This match was also Rajat Patidar’s first loss as RCB captain. However, Bhuvneshwar’s record-breaking achievement was a big positive for the team.
