Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar believes Virat Kohli has the chance to finish the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 with four centuries if he scores a century in Brisbane. He pointed out that Kohli has a strong reason to make a big score at the Gabba.
India and Australia are currently tied 1-1 going into the third Test match, which will begin on Saturday, December 14, in Brisbane. Kohli had scored an unbeaten 100 in India’s second innings during the first Test in Perth, but he only managed to score 18 runs in total from two innings at Adelaide Oval, his favorite ground, in the second match.
In a discussion on the Star Sports show Game Plan, Gavaskar mentioned that if Kohli scores a century in Brisbane, he will join Gavaskar and Sir Alastair Cook as the only overseas players to score a century in five different Test venues in Australia. Gavaskar also believes that Kohli could score centuries in the last two Tests in Melbourne and Sydney.
Virat Kohli has scored seven Test centuries in Australia. He has scored three centuries in Adelaide, two in Perth, and one each in Melbourne and Sydney.
Reflecting on Kohli’s failure to score in both innings at Adelaide, Gavaskar reminded everyone that even the great Sir Don Bradman never scored big runs in every Test match of a series.
Gavaskar suggested that Kohli will get among the runs if he is more cautious and watches the line and length of the Australian bowlers. Kohli was dismissed by Mitchell Starc in the first innings and by Scott Boland in the second innings at Adelaide, while in Perth, Josh Hazlewood dismissed him.
