India’s playing XI ready as Bumrah takes charge for the series opener
Stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah has shared updates about the team’s playing XI for the first Test against Australia in Perth. Bumrah, stepping in as skipper for Rohit Sharma, confirmed that the final playing XI has already been decided but will be revealed on Friday, just before the toss.
“We have finalized our playing XI, and you will get to know tomorrow morning before the match starts,” Bumrah said.
India needs to win four out of the five matches in this series to qualify for their third consecutive World Test Championship Final. Bumrah expressed confidence in the team’s preparation for the high-stakes Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Although India suffered a 3-0 series loss against New Zealand recently, Bumrah said those results wouldn’t affect their performance in Australia. “When you win, you start from zero, and when you lose, you also start from zero. We are not carrying any baggage from India. The conditions in New Zealand were different, and here in Australia, our results have been better,” he said.
While Rohit is expected to return during the series, Bumrah is excited about leading the side in the meantime. He also emphasized the potential of fast bowlers as captains. “I’ve always believed pacers can make great captains. Pat Cummins has done an excellent job, and there are examples like Kapil Dev in the past. Hopefully, this marks the start of a new tradition,” Bumrah added.
India is gearing up for an exciting battle, with the team focused and ready to take on the challenge in Australia.
