The IPL has been a big stage for some of the best cricketers to show their skills. But as they say, all good things must end. Could this be the last IPL season for some of the biggest names who have entertained us for years? Let’s take a look!
ROHIT SHARMA
Rohit has led Mumbai Indians to five IPL titles. But as a batsman, he has not been very consistent in the last few seasons. In IPL 2024, after leaving the MI captaincy, the 37-year-old showed glimpses of his classic form, scoring 417 runs in 14 matches with a strike rate of 150.00. After saying goodbye to T20 internationals following India’s T20 World Cup win, will Rohit also decide to end his IPL journey on a high note?
VIRAT KOHLI
‘King’ Kohli had an amazing IPL 2024, scoring 741 runs in 15 matches with a 61.75 average. He even hit one century and five fifties. Though he is still one of the best, RCB is yet to win an IPL trophy—the only missing piece in his legendary career. After retiring from T20Is, will Kohli continue to play, or is this his last chance to lift the IPL trophy?
MS DHONI
For the last few seasons, fans have been asking, “Will this be Dhoni’s last IPL?” But Thala has never given a clear answer! Despite his age, Dhoni remains crucial for CSK, playing impactful knocks in the final overs. After knee surgery in 2023, he changed his role but still impressed, scoring 161 runs at an unbelievable strike rate of 220.54. Now at 43, will Dhoni finally say goodbye? The perfect farewell would be a title-winning six for CSK—just like 2011!
FAF DU PLESSIS
Though he played his last Test match in 2021, the South African star has continued to shine in the IPL. As RCB’s captain, he played well, but this season he has a new challenge—playing for Delhi Capitals as Axar Patel’s deputy. In IPL 2024, he scored 438 runs in 15 matches, including four fifties. Will DC finally get their first IPL title, and will Faf end his IPL career on a winning note?
SUNIL NARINE
Narine started as a mystery spinner, but now he is a match-winning allrounder. In IPL 2024, he was outstanding, scoring 488 runs as an opener and taking 17 wickets with an economy of just 6.69. His partnership with Phil Salt helped KKR win the title. At 36, will Narine go for one more title before saying goodbye to the IPL?
ANDRE RUSSELL
Like Narine, Russell is also a KKR legend. Injuries have troubled him in the last few years, but in IPL 2024, he was back in form—taking 19 wickets and scoring 222 runs at a strike rate of 185.00. His 64-run knock in just 25 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad reminded everyone why he is one of the most dangerous T20 players.
With these legends nearing the final chapters of their IPL careers, fans will be eager to see if they can end their journey on a high!
