“Overweight and No Longer a Long-Term Player” – Former South Africa Batter Criticizes Rohit Sharma Ahead of BGT 2024-25 3rd Test

Date:

Former South Africa cricketer Daryll Cullinan has sharply criticized Rohit Sharma, calling him “overweight” and a “flat-track bully.” Rohit, the Indian captain, has been struggling with his batting form, unable to score runs consistently. He has often gotten out to similar types of deliveries, making his recent performances a matter of concern.

In the second Test against Australia in Adelaide, Rohit moved down the batting order to No. 6. However, this change did not help him as he managed only 9 runs across both innings in the pink ball Test. After a poor home season and now nearing 38 years of age, Rohit’s Test career seems to be at a critical point. Cullinan also criticized Rohit’s fitness, saying he is not ready for the long and challenging Test format.

Rohit has scored just one Test fifty since the home series against England in early 2024. He has failed to reach double digits in eight out of his last 12 Test innings.

Rohit Sharma dropped down to the 31st spot in the ICC Test Rankings for batters:-

Rohit Sharma has also dropped to the 31st position in the ICC Test Rankings for batters. His poor form during the recent home season had already pushed him down to 25th place, but his failure in Adelaide has now taken him out of the top 30. His current rating of 595 is much lower than his peak of 813, which he achieved after his memorable century at the Oval in 2021.

It is yet to be seen whether Rohit will continue batting in the middle order or return as an opener for the third Test against Australia, starting on Saturday, December 14, at the Gabba.
