
Team India and Tamil Nadu’s spin-bowling all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin has announced his retirement from international cricket after the third Test of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The 38-year-old was part of the squad for the tour of Australia.
Ashwin made his debut in 2010, playing ODIs against Sri Lanka and T20Is against Zimbabwe. He began his Test journey in 2011 against the West Indies, taking nine wickets in the match, including a six-wicket haul.
The Chennai Super Kings all-rounder last played in T20Is during the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. He famously hit the winning runs against Pakistan in a thrilling match, helping India start the tournament with a victory. Ashwin’s final ODI appearance was at his home ground, the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, during India’s opening game of the ICC Men’s World Cup 2023 against Australia.
Ashwin has been a key part of India’s Test team and played in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. In the second Test, he scored 22 and 7 in the two innings and took the wicket of Mitchell Marsh, his last wicket in international cricket.
On Wednesday, December 18, Ashwin announced his retirement in a press conference. The BCCI honored him with a special post on social media.

He was part of India’s victorious squads in the 2011 ICC Men’s ODI World Cup and the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy.
Ashwin’s contributions to cricket have made him one of India’s finest players, earning respect and admiration worldwide.
