Saif Ali Khan was attacked last Thursday inside his apartment. The accused, after stabbing him during a burglary attempt, hid in the garden of the Bandra building for two hours, according to the police.

The accused, who was arrested on Sunday, initially claimed to be from Kolkata. However, the police discovered the truth after obtaining his school leaving certificate from his brother in Bangladesh. This document confirmed that the accused, Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir, was a Bangladeshi national. He had been using the fake name Vijay Das to hide his identity.
During the investigation, the police learned that Fakir had entered Saif Ali Khan’s apartment looking for a big amount of money. It is unclear if Fakir knew Saif Ali Khan lived in the building. Fakir was arrested from Thane three days after the attack.
When questioned, Fakir first told the police that his name was Vijay Das and he was from Kolkata, but he couldn’t provide any proof of this claim. During further questioning, he admitted his real name and nationality. The police asked him to call his family in Bangladesh, and his brother sent his school leaving certificate via mobile. This certificate became solid proof of his Bangladeshi identity.
Saif Ali Khan, aged 54, was stabbed multiple times in the attack. He underwent a five-hour surgery at Lilavati Hospital and is now recovering well, as per doctors. The police have taken Fakir into custody for five days and are planning to recreate the crime scene at Saif’s residence for further investigation.
