Sushmita Sen, who worked with Salman Khan for the first time in the 1999 superhit movie Biwi No 1, recently shared a sweet kahani about her teenage admiration for the superstar. Long before she acted with him, Sushmita was a big fan of Salman, thanks to his debut film Maine Pyar Kiya.
In a conversation on Shipra Neeraj’s YouTube channel, Sushmita revealed that as a teenager, she used all her pocket money to buy Salman’s posters. She said, “Jo bhi pocket money milta tha, usse Salman Khan ke posters kharid leti thi. Tab Maine Pyar Kiya release hua tha, aur mere paas us film ka kabootar wala picture bhi tha, kyunki wo Salman Khan ki film ka tha.”
Sushmita’s love for Salman’s posters was so strong that she made sure her homework was always complete to keep them safe. She recalled, “Mere parents hamesha kehte the ki agar homework time par nahi hua, toh posters hata denge. Is wajah se main apna homework hamesha time par complete karti thi, kyunki wo posters mere liye bahut special the. Main unpe fida thi.”
Salman’s role as Prem in Sooraj Barjatya’s Maine Pyar Kiya made him a ghar-ghar ka naam and a perfect “boy-next-door”. Years later, when Sushmita met Salman on the sets of Biwi No 1, they became dosts, and she shared her teenage crush wali kahani with him.
“We became friends, and I told him this story. Ek din unhone mujhe kaha ki unhone mera ek picture dekha, jab main 15 saal ki thi, aur us photo mein unki film ka ek poster background mein tha. Maine unse kaha, ‘Maine toh aapko bataya tha ki mere kamre mein aapka poster tha.’ Phir unhone mujhse poocha, ‘Tumhari favourite film kaunsi thi?’ Maine kaha, ‘Maine Pyar Kiya.’ Tab Salman David Dhawan ke paas gaye aur bole, ‘Humein Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya Sushmita ke saath banani chahiye,’” Sushmita shared, with a big smile.
The 2005 film Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya, directed by David Dhawan, featured Salman Khan, Sushmita Sen, Katrina Kaif, and Sohail Khan. The movie was a box office hit, and fans loved Salman and Sushmita’s on-screen chemistry.
On the work front, Salman Khan will next be seen in the film Sikandar, which is set to release on Eid 2025.
