The 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will begin on March 21 at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens, with the final on May 25 at the same venue, as per a report from Cricbuzz. This schedule comes after the BCCI made changes from the earlier proposed dates of March 14 to May 25, 2025. The earlier dates were suggested during the IPL auction in Jeddah last year but were later clarified to be a reserved window and not the confirmed schedule.
The change in dates is reportedly due to the Champions Trophy final on March 9, as broadcasters wanted to avoid any clash with the international tournament. However, sources from broadcasting companies have denied making such a request.
As per tradition, the Kolkata Knight Riders, the IPL 2024 champions, will host the opening match and the final at Eden Gardens. The Sunrisers Hyderabad, the runners-up of last season, will host two playoff matches.
The BCCI is likely to release the full IPL schedule soon, following the election of Devjit Saikia as secretary and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia as treasurer during a Special General Meeting in Mumbai on January 12.
On another note, BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla shared that the Indian squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy is expected to be announced on January 19.
