Virat Kohli slips 6 places, Rohit Sharma falls out of the top 30 in the latest rankings before the BGT 2024-25 3rd Test.

Date:

Star Indian batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have faced a setback in the latest ICC Men’s Test batting rankings. Currently, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant are the only Indian players in the top 10.

Virat Kohli, despite scoring a brilliant century in Perth, struggled in Adelaide with scores of just 7 and 11 in his two innings. This poor performance caused him to drop six places in the ICC rankings, putting him in 20th position with 661 points.

Similarly, Rohit Sharma, who returned for the pink ball Test in Adelaide after missing the Perth Test, had a tough match as well. He managed only 3 and 6 in his two innings, dropping five places in the rankings. Rohit is now at 31st with 595 points.

The current form of Virat and Rohit, who are key batters for India, is a big concern as the team prepares for the third Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 Test.

New No. 1 in ICC Men’s Test batting rankings

In other news, England batter Joe Root is no longer the top-ranked Test batter. Root, who overtook Kane Williamson earlier this year, has slipped to second place.

Taking the top spot is his England teammate Harry Brook. Brook’s outstanding performance against New Zealand in Wellington, where he scored 123 and 55 in England’s big 323-run win, helped him climb to first place. Brook now has 898 points, just one point ahead of Root, who has 897.

Kane Williamson remains third, while India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal is fourth. Travis Head (up six places), Kamindu Mendis (up one place), and Temba Bavuma (up three places) are now in fifth, sixth, and seventh positions respectively.

New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell, India’s Rishabh Pant, and Pakistan’s Saud Shakeel complete the top 10, holding eighth, ninth, and tenth positions respectively.
